Journalism:a modern tool to alert people

Everything evolves and only the fittest survive: an apt observation by Darwin...
Just as someone asks a famous economist "Indian economy is sure to be boosted in 2011, isn't it?"
If I were in that economist's shoes I wouldn't be pessimistic; nor would I induce a false hope.India has surely been growing, but how far is this growth inclusive?
When our nails grow, do we say we are growing???
But one thing is evolving as a tool to overthrow governments,if need be...That one powerful tool when wielded at the right time, towards the right people ;it is sure to bring forth a cleaner and healthy country.Journalism has always been such a tool; but after those initial freedom fighting years when it was used to inspire people to fight against intruders; it has only been in snooze mode waking up intermittently, revealing facts of less importance while concealing some major facts. But today as we look at the newspaper we see information, which we wouldn't have imagined.News channels today reveal information which shakes and pressurizes governments, the judiciary and thus upholding the basic principles of democracy.
I hope this helps us realize the inherent faults in the system and to correct them ....
Be it Wikileaks revealing underground US diplomatic cables or our own version on a national scale the infamous Radia tapes; people get to know what actually is happening in the big bad world of corporates, politics, terrorism etc...
The anthem of this period is surely: "Evolve,Enrich and Enlighten".In addition to these there is another word that might come in this list "Entertain" :) ....

Castle

I started watching Castle recently and completed the first two seasons in no time...I love this series, mainly because of the subtle emotions conveyed through Rick's expressions,Beckett's teasing..Its awesome!Among all of them I loooooovvvveeee Ryan... ;) And obviously the interesting homicide cases are worth a watch :)
After completing House MD in six months I thought nothing could beat it, but something came close enough at last :P
Be it medical cases or homicide cases I like them both!
I wish there were a show with engineering cases too, so that I don't feel guilty watching them, ignoring my subjects :P

Ignorance is bliss

Daily morning when sunlight peeks through the window I wonder why is nature beautiful in spite of being so complicated. Why does nature inspire in spite of being so difficult to interpret?
Unanswered questions give us a reason to live. If all the answers were known, what fun could we possibly have as we unveil every step of our lives?
Every second of knowledge shows us an eternity of ignorance...Ignorance is bliss!
There is a cycle of life-love-knowledge intertwined with a desire of escapism.
I always leave things after a point, i don’t poke in much, digging deep reveals more dust than treasure. But there is a time when intuitions tell you to go on, that is when you strike gold.
Inquire about, invest in and be intrigued by something which attracts you; not everything that might benefit you!

The Butterfly Effect ;)

Two at a time ;)
Sometimes I am awed looking at nature's beauty!
Nature has a sense of style and blend which inspires life in anyone who bothers to notice...
Last summer I went to an island called Penang. It is a heaven in its own way...Quiet,religious and colourful....The beaches, the gardens, fruits farms, the buddhist temples all of these are a tourist's delight....
I took these pics at Penang's Butterfly farm!It just finished raining and all of them seemed to be in a fresh mood, flying all around one even perched on my brightly coloured handbag :P
I love these pics :)Njoy!!!

Talk of colour combinations :)

Perched with perfection!!!!!!

My fav :)

Now that beats the Louis Vuitton

They are everywhere, ever bothered to look????

The Social Network

The world wide web has made it possible to download and watch a movie even before it released in my country...'Torrents' is the mantra for movie buffs!!
I watched 'The social network' at least 2 months before it released here.It was a good movie. For a change it didn't praise the $Richie rich$...It just made sure people know that when you grow richer and when you get obsessed with something you sometimes end up losing valuable things like friendship and love! Mark wasn't an ordinary person he was a genius, but that doesn't make him an alien. He is as human as anyone else and subjected to as much emotions. But he hides them and forgets to retrieve them later when they matter. At some critical points of life he took some wrong decisions , not in his business but in his personal life.
Sometimes its ok to lie, fight, shout, have differences of opinion and even to hurt a person; but what matters is that one should have the guts to accept his fault and go tell the other person how much he values him/her.
I liked the slow pace of the movie and screenplay.I especially loved the way it ended. Its definitely worth a watch!

Being Indian!!

India is a country where last minute preparations even make the impossible possible!!!
This quality is imbibed in every system and in every activity of our beloved nation.Let us consider a politician visiting a town for a function, the nearly-in- ruin roads and street lights which were never ON since a long time; all get repaired and reworked in the last few days to make it perfect for the D-day.Government employees in various departments ranging from the Income tax to Food&Agriculture, Railways to Communication,Transport to Health, every one of them organise their work just days before an inspection.
Take for example the Ayodhya case.It has been more than half a century since the case was in the court, but it receives a judgment from the high court only days before a jury member is about to retire :)!!!
But nevertheless these last minute cover-ups are quite successful in many cases!
Consider the Common Wealth Games, just a month before the event it was a complete mess up and people were deciding who should be blamed for the mess.Probabilities of any huge success of the event were near to nil.But the transformation of the games village from its pathetic state to its amazing state was all-in-all a last minute miracle. The opening ceremony was a complete thumbs up:)..And whoa in CWG India ends up second due to its the medal bagging spree!!Speak of efforts;)..The CWF head calls Common Wealth Games 2010 a complete success :D

Also, lets take the example of the assembly goof up in Karnataka. Even in this case a last minute trust vote avoided the president rule in the state...
Talking of efforts at the penultimate moment, how can we forget to mention the test matches which India won recently!VVS zindabad..Our cricketers have the 'last-minute rush up' in their genes ;)
We have it in our genes too...
I love the sabji my mom makes in a hurry just before she takes off to work ;) (yummy results of last moment patch up...)
Hmmm...I gotta go,as I have to start writing an assignment with a deadline till tomorrow morning!!!( I have it too I guess ;))

Locked up?!?

I was watching an Akon feat song 'Locked up' today, that was when it stuck to me how locked up I was in a place where I was supposed to be free and during that phase of life where independence is felt, learnt and yearned for.Everyday I Facebook I see my friends from Mumbai uploading pics of fun,joy and freedom. But here when I have to ask a hundred permissions to cross the college gate I give up.I realise the value of being a person with a gift of adaptability. But there are atleast 5 thousand girls like me behind these walls of holy hell. Fun and frolic don't depend on the place say some. But I feel the world is going on and I am not in it.Its running fast and after a year when get out there I might not be able to catch up. Education is one thing but experience is another. When it comes to experience even the worst situations teach us a life lesson, something which we don't learn from being locked up.And atlast when we do get some holidays to go back home its like we are being bailed out awaiting a verdict. The days fly and back we go to the same walls.

What should I do????

'Decision making' is one of the major attributes which we have to accept whether we want it or not. Many times I ponder over some of my major decisions which had, have and will have an affect on my life; then I get lost in the spiral which fills me with guilt.I realise a little more hardwork and a firm decision of not letting go would have gotten me where I was actually supposed to be.But this moment is more precious aint it? Everybody makes mistakes. The grass always appears greener on the other side. But the point is even if it is greener, am I a cow grazing???I am human and I can take decisions that ruin or make my life thats why I am here and thats why I would be responsible for anything I do.I cant blame anyone!
Living and crying, living and laughing, living and thinking, living and enjoying, living and loving....Living goes with everything, every moment is to be lived by us, not by someone else who's brave enough to take our decisions and thus take blame for them.
All this is a lot of philosophy, which I wouldnt have read in any other blog unless it relates to me.I guess it would most to most of us youngsters...So lets decide and live the moment as we want :)...

Common Wealth Games Organising Committee Over spending Common Wealth!!

There was a big deal of hooplah about an event which was going to happen.Huge money was involved, and so it was a bigger bribe-giving chain ceremony that begun! And when work was almost done with exorbitant money spent. The clock was ticking away!!
And from the heavens came a blessing/curse in disguise, it rained! The downpour revealed leaks and damages in the preparations as well as the system. It revealed the low standards of materials and men involved in it...Finally, the rain managed to wear away
the national pride.Ran caused more expenditure and then one fine day tax payers realised it was their money which was spent and so they questioned ---Why conduct an event which is above capacity n a given time? And even when it was taken up, why drain all the money down the loo by spending unreasonably.
I would like to ask a question--Why was Marketing outsourced to an Australian company(which failed miserably, but enjoyed a treasure bounty)?
Maybe because they couldn't market India as an active sports-athletics nation...Well when the drama is over the fact would anyways be out...
Kalmadi was an obvious comedy..
Height of overspending was---buying a tissue roll for Rs.8000 each.May be they wanted us to know that we pay for cleaning shit!
Lets hope that our national pride remains intact after the event..Also lets hope we get no complaints on rats in the room, leaking stadiums and creaky chairs!
But a free performance by the Indian Maestro of music is definitely lesser burden on the huge budget :)!

When I remain silent....

There are very few things which make me shut up and keep my opinions to myself. This basic instinct of being argumentative has put me in a pickle a lot of times. But it gives me a sense of deep satisfaction.
When I remain silent it surely means its either one of these few things:
That I ve fought with someone.
I am bored of routine life.
And when I don't write in my blog it means:
That my college wifi sucks bigtime!!
Or I am holidaying in southeast asia :))....

The cobbler

I miss my grandpa a lot. When he passed away last year; it kindled a lot of old memories!!A lot of these memories had many subtle points which I never noticed.Upon further dwelling, they make me realise now,how myriad and beautiful is human life;however long or short it might be!!
I remember this one thing about my grandpa a lot.He lived in mumbai with us for a few years. Not knowing hindi so well did not deter him from befriending a lot of people. His friends or rather his 'Hi' mates, were usually common people whom we often miss out on.He used to wave a 'Hello' to the shopkeeper round the corner, the nariyal paniwala at the junction, a rather hefty autowallah (whos lazy enough to do only local business,so would often turn down my request to drop me down at west and would instead catch me another auto) and was quite a buddy to the corner cobbler.
This cobbler was an old guy who had a cheerful smile up whenever he waved to my grandpa. The cobbler lived in a small shackie most of the day time mending up shoes(some of them for free, including ours :P).During heavy rains he would be gone; we ll look at his shackie and hope he was safe.
Upon learning about my grandpa recently; the cobbler shed a tear. Such a strange world ; a complete stranger to whom you hardly talk feels bad about your grandpa passing away.
This is the reason why; we should acknowledge all the people who come into this weird journey called life!!They might not share any business with you! They might not be of any relevance to your day-to-day routine but it when comes to the fact of being a good person, you gotta be humble!Else you won't have 84 years with 84 millions of faces to remember and cherish!!

Grade point marking?!?!knock knock is it me?

When theres a really screwing paper, I just sit back and relax at the thought that everybody would screw up; so a lot of C's and D's.Just keep arrear away!
Sometimes I unexpectedly land a grade i dont deserve; may be I was just hanging at the edge of that range.I am happy; is it fair for all those who did not sleep all night preparing for dat paper?who cares about others; they ll be happy with their grades too. A day then comes when one of my most coveted papers; in which Im really good at has a terrible semester question paper.Scoring in my internals, wasn't good enough to save me from sinking down the drowning semester ship! :(
Now I ask when I burn the midnight oil, why is everybody mocking at me?Why do I miss an S or an A by just 2 or 3 marks?Lifes a hell when you go to the other side of it!

Sorry for such pointless essays on semesters and stuff, I must say I am facing one of the toughest semesters this time what wid an additional paper to speed up completing my graduation(shouldn't it be smeting done gradually??); teachers who are stingy at giving internals, courses which make me go blah blah to just explain a concept, already screwed lab pracs,....but its worth the hardwork...Lets wait for the xams to end!! coming soon at your places is a holiday vacation, cant wait!!!

Wherever I go!!!!

It started with the kissing of my toes,
then went on up to the knees;
the waves are funny to keep up;
yet naughty enough to make you run after it and then away!
The wind is damp,
the sun makes the crests shine;
life is just infinite for these energetic followers!
I just want one thing every day and night;
why don't these waves follow me everywhere I go?
Come lets play in the salty water,
it is just nature and yet human!
Come follow, everywhere I go!

Teasing.....

The universal teasing game has its own pro and cons....It is the best way to irritate some and the best way to make some people secretly happy...Opposites attract...People whom you dislike at the first shot may sometimes become closer to you than your closest ones!!!
Teasing should never be to disparage someone! Rather it should be a mellow to the occult desires of others; but you may not realize it till the end!
At my college teasing is a common habit(atleast among girls); we start linking off some XYZ with our friends and start teasing them!!!A small cute smile from a guy is enough to start of this business!A small little party-day confession of a crush may cause a bigger teasing era to start ;)!I admit teasing game is a long played one; right from our school days but in college we see the game transform into reality right in front of our eyes!Whoa!
Lemme tell u wat happened!Last year, we started teasing our classmate with a guy she hardly knows just because she borrowed his drafter (I admit we were totally bored and jobless)!!!!She shouted at us the first time! She whined a bit the second time! She seemed irritated a wee bit the third time..We gave her a dare to go speak to that guy for 2 minutes during a free hour...She refused at first, later after much persuasion and teasing she went ahead and spoke to him...Boom...Just a month later they were sitting(a bit too close for comfort) hand in hand under a tree on a stone bench :P !!!Cupid had stuck !! But were we the cupid????
We never knew how phone numbers got exchanged or how they spoke and started liking each other; but what we knew for sure is that we started the process!

One wiser tip for the guys out there, girls usually like to tease the guys they like with someone else just to make sure no one knows!!!

Daily dose

One day you blink and its all gone...that's what Babaji said...I don't believe in every man's philosophy (especially a god man's; after reading Nityananda story I laughed out aloud; more people will join my league now)...
Look at the current trends and where do people who advice stand ????They are boring and snoring in their own ways ...but then a spark clicked.wats an advice? Isn't it just as unbinding as a suggestion?Friends suggest, so do parents...Does it make a difference if its called 'ADVICE' or 'SUGGESTION' ?????

Secret admirer!!!!

Everyone has someone deep inside the woods waiting for him/her!!!....
That person out there waits all day long looking out for you!No rain or snow can dissuade that person....The woods sing your praises ;coz he tells them to....
Hes your biggest admirer...He admires your look...He admires that cute smile you give to the mirror when you comb your hair !!!He admires that longing desire for fun within you...He admires your free spirit!!!He admires that sly look you give to your friends when your girlfriend/boyfriend pats on your head!He admires your strengths, your weaknesses and every single ounce of your attitude! He loves it all coz he loves you as your friend, your philosopher and your companion for life!He wants you to jump up high and grab the sky, to lift your spirits and gather your wits!
He loves your comedy, so you should crack jokes sometimes...He likes your thrill,so be adventurous...Discover him...Hes deep inside the woods of your heart...That little cute bastard.........

One more thgt!!!

I thought of a beautiful metaphor ....
Life is like a big jigsaw puzzle...Its full of unanswered questions!
But when we mix it all together at the end of this life the beautiful pieces fall at their place to form a portrait which is ever relished!!!!

Which is the real yellow?????

Which is the real yellow?????
Few of the things we learn in our early stages as a child remain the basic fundamentals of our whole life!!!We learn to accept predefined definitions and perceptions of others as our own....This is where most of us lose the most precious gift to humanity; our open- mindedness!!!
I accept that all this sounds really weird, but there’s this tinge of truth in it which tingles the mind!
Ok, back to the topic; when I first learnt ‘the yellow color’ I was shown a chart with all the colors in it and my mom pointed out yellow for me! Then the next day she showed me sunflowers in the garden and told that it was yellow! The next evening she pointed at my banana chips and said that it was yellow too!!But can we ever define yellow??????
There are some things in nature which cannot be defined; one of them is colors! We can only compare different objects of the same hue and call it a name....Thats how yellow came into existence!! But can you look through my eyes and tell that ,what I see as yellow is the same color which you see as yellow???????
May be all our yellows are bright and conspicuous...but is there any way to prove its the same???
There goes my funda : “Do not believe in any predefined notion or definition unless you know it by experience!!!”
All of us, college dudes and babes, need to know this...Be curious and inquisitive!!

Are We Still Alive????

Are we still alive????
When I look around in the crowded mess hall, I let my imagination wander.....
I am really good in proposing weird and hard-to-believe theories but when these theories are actually read twice and thought over for sometime; people start realising that they actually have some possibilities......
One such theory came to my mind after watching a movie called PASSENGERS. (It’s a good movie, worth a watch!  )
Energy ..... We have read about so many forms of it, we know every law of its conservation and conversion. It rules the world. But have we seen it? Wouldn’t it be easier if it were visible? We believe of things and phenomenon which we don’t see and derive laws controlling it!! How strange! This shows how limited we are as humans!!
Einstein proposed that everything in the world is relative, which implies that nothing is absolute!!We have a limited sense of perception if we do not accept the existence of extra and super-human forces in this universe...
Coming back to my theory, which is based only and only on my imagination.
There exists another huge galaxy called the not-so-milky way...Its location is unknown to humans. It lies zillions of miles away on the other side of a blackhole....There in that universe there are crores of stars .One such star is called the PUN ;which is 1000 times bigger than our SUN. It emits an unknown spectrum of light. Pun controls many other planets not by gravitation, but by sonic forces unknown to earth-humans . In one of these planets, (which is exactly similar and astoundingly as well progressed as our earth)there are inhabitants (lets call them the other people) who resemble the humans every inch....they are exact replicas of the earth-humans but relatively much ahead of our times and having senses more powerful than ours!! It seems that when these other people die, they are born on our earth as humans....
We on earth, ignorant of this...assume we are all alive and as we have no memories of our past life, this assumption is confirmed!! When we die on earth we’ll go into another world in some other universe; this process has no end!!!!!!
After reading this theory; do you think we are alive?
“ARE WE STILL ALIVE????”

Reservation for women, take it or leave it!.....

Yesterday in HR class, the professor asked our opinion on the women's reservation bill...I wasn't surprised to learn that most guys had a negative take on this issue...Why is it that most men jump to a conclusion without analysing? And why is that conclusion mostly against women on feminist issues?
I am clearly not against men...I am definitely not a staunch feminist.
I am completely against caste reservations! But when it comes to this bill I support its pass!!!!WHY?
I say I am against caste reservations at present, but if it were 40 years back I would have accepted it wholly. On similar grounds, I say I am completely in agreement with the women's reservation bill at present...But 30 years down the line I would say it should be scrapped...Any change needs time. But this time period should never be indefinite, else it would lead to further misuse! In the current scenario this is clearly illustrated through the many cases of the caste reservation misuse.
A year back I was heading to bangalore from trichy, on the train I met a lady who was with her teenage son.She happily announced that she was getting her son admitted to a very good engineering college.I asked her how much did her son score in the entrance tests? She replied saying that marks were not a matter at all as her husband had recently obtained a OBC certificate from a government office. But then theirs was a high caste considerably rich family.
This is not the only example I know of.Most of us students(unfortunately not belonging to any reserved category) know for sure that if there was no caste reservation system we would have gotten into a better college with a better course. So doesn't this mean we are not gettng what we actually deserve? Is this democracy at all?
Coming back to our topic, why is womens' reservation different?Women are not a minority group of the society. Many present home-makers have the potential to become future nation builders!!Why cant we expect a woman to handle national issues, when she very well handles the fundamental unit of the society the family?
Passing the bill and then executing it successfully would ensure that at least 33% of the parliament is not passive!!Women raise their voice when their fundamental rights or their moral opinions or their intelligence is challenged!!!!!!!This is proved by many great examples....The personality of a woman and her way of approach to a problem, helps her handle it in a tussle-free manner.
Many opposition leaders argued that the bill if made an act, would lead to phony women MPs controlled by unwanted powers. I agree that this is an obstacle in the bill. But is there any positive solution without loopholes? If yes, I am eager to know.
This bill would ensure women from remote parts of India participate in the country's affairs!
May be we could have another lady PM in the near future and lets wait and watch the magic which would unfold then! But yeah the egos of many male politicians would be subjected to strong blows if any of this happens! Why should this ego come in the way of our nation's progress?
So Soniaji, mera support toh apke pas hai, par loksabha ka kya hoga?
And I would like to add that sub-quotas in the reservation is a verrryyyy baddddd idea!!Why cant we live with our castes apart for sometime? Isn't caste just a name tag?
The act( if made) should be scrapped once it is found that women's participation in politics is considerable!Anything left too long would stale,be it a bread or an act!!
So,lets take it and leave it when needed..
As an engineer I can say that for a biased society an equally and oppositely biased system should predominate till the society's biasing is eliminated!(oops confusing eh?)Think it over.......

Hostel!!!!!!!!!!

Many of us, living far away from our homes just have one longing- when will I go home next?
We yearn for good food.....Even 5star hostel food tends to get boring day by day...Mom's food is a treat....Despite these yearnings we live in this whole new free world!
Hostel life gives a sense of freedom, like none other.Well we get to know about the good and the bad in the world(meaning the angels vs the bitches; the samaritan vs the bastard)
Catching up with romance @ hostel...Oh my god! This is one thing which surprises me, how come every two out of three people moving into the hostel become committed with in just months(sometimes a week is enough)? How can any human being be hooked onto a cell phone for hours together(sometimes the whole night isnt enough)?I know of a girl in my hostel who actually speaks on her cell even while going to the loo!!!Well well you can sometimes rediscover yourself completely when you are analysing the NEW-U in a completely different environment.....
I admit I'm a bit geeky...till school days I found it such a disadvantage, but now? I can see myself in many others!I have completely had an image makeover, I can multitask a 100 things now...My confidence is at its peak!
I owe these things to my 2 year hostel life!
Gossip?!?! oh thats the funniest part, every soul in a hostel can gossip(even the guys in their hostels)! We call it stimulated discussion ;) (stimulated by us :P)
Now at hostels "where there's a laptop there's fun"...We are up-to-date with every new movie be it hollywood, bollywood, kolly, tolly or any other wood!!!!!And the classic old ones are there forever ;)....And the huge no. of tv series right from f.r.i.e.n.d.s(my favourite) ,house, scrubs, big bang theory, prison brake(its awesome)etc.. to scooby doo ,naruto, shinshan etc......WE NEVER MISS THE TV ANYMORE...when we go home theres only crap on tv, oh sooooo boring!!
I can never write about hostel life in one post!!!(that means I'm not ending it here...theres more masala in the later posts ;))

All Iz Well

“ALL IS WELL”
‘What can I do?’ is always the wrong question to ask yourself ! Just start thinking about what can you not do, and overcome those limitations. Well it does sound too bold to many but it is just the right thing to do. Every baby born on this earth has unlimited opportunities. But it is during the growth period that it loses those opportunities one by one, sometimes without even realising what is gone...Well it is hard to develop optimism, but it is a rare gem. The very fact of us living at the present moment is optimism. Most of the times we do not choose what we get; but the situations make us choose them. But we survive even in such situations; sometimes we even emerge successful in some of the testing times. Let me give a practical example, a flower blooms with all its beauty in the morning inspite of knowing that it would wither away by evening.
It is not necessary to solve all the problems; but what we should realise is that despite of all the obstacles there is a hidden trove of treasure which we have to dig into and discover. In the recent movie ‘3 idiots’, this concept of optimism is well illustrated. Wherein Rancho(Aamir) goes in for engineering not for a degree, nor a job; all he wants is to learn. He knows that as long as you are strong enough ‘All is well’:)
“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”
If the above words of George Bernard Shaw are confusing to you, so are they to me! But what I know now is that the gist is ‘No matter how unconventional you think, how many bondages you are in, if you have complete belief in yourself, all is well and would always be so. Your capabilities are unlimited and you have the power to change even the world!’
So all the kool guys and gals out there; lets ‘Rock On!’
